Liversedge girl Freya works with celebrities in BBC's hit drama The A Word

The A Word follows five year old Joe and his family, and how they adapt to life after Joe is diagnosed with autism.

Starring Julie Hemonsdalgh and Christopher Eccleston, the critically acclaimed series was nominated for a Diversity in Media Award in 2017 for ‘TV Programme of the Year.’

After attending a successful audition in Manchester, nine year old Freya, who lives in Liversedge, secured the role of Tanya, one of Joe’s peers.

During filming Freya had the opportunity to learn from the star studded cast and was thrilled to work with some of her acting heroes.

Freya said: “Acting in The A Word was an amazing experience. Being a Doctor Who fan it was fantastic acting with Christoper Eccleston.

“I had a lot of my scenes with Julie Hemonsdalgh - although the main one was cut because they didn’t have enough time in the episode for it.

“Julie was so kind to me and gave me tips about how to act in scenes.

“It was the best experience I have ever had and I just love acting.”

The Littletown Junior and Infant school pupil has also appeared in series one of the historical drama ‘Gentleman Jack’ and in supermarket commercials.

Freya is represented by Articulate Agency in Baildon.

She discovered the agency after they hired Gomersal Public Hall, where her father Simon works as the caretaker.

“In fact our office walls have a whole section dedicated to pictures of filming The A Word - including the day when nearly 30 children almost got snowed in on location in the middle of the lake district.”
