Food Matters: Home-made winter warmer

Members of the public are invited to step out of the cold and miserable weather into a warm kitchen lit by a real fire and experience the wonderful smell of home-made bread this weekend at Colne Valley Museum, Golcar.

Volunteers who make up the Bread Team will be demonstrating how to make bread in the traditional way and visitors will be able to buy some to take home for tea.

Jane Lee – a longstanding member of the team, as was her mother before her, said, "There is perhaps more interest nowadays in traditional bread-making than ever before. People are more concerned about what they are eating."

The team will be making brown bread, with flour sourced from Parfitt's Bakery at Newsome, and the museum will be opening earlier than usual, at 12.30pm, on Saturday and Sunday January 15 and 16.
