Food matters: Leftovers serve up a real treat

The Love Food Hate Waste campaign helped the Leeds Loves Food Festival reach an energetic conclusion last Sunday.

Based at the finish line of the Jane Tomlinson's Run for All race, the Love Food Hate Waste team were the only ones on two wheels – with their unusual bike-powered smoothie maker. Crowds enjoyed smoothie samples as they discovered just how easy it is to plough through neglected fruit in the bowl with a quick blitz in the blender.

At the Kirkgate Farmers' Market, top TV Chef Nigel Brown was cooking up a storm in the Love Food Hate Waste Food Theatre. But these gastronomic delights came with a twist – they were all made from leftovers – showing the crowds how easy it is to make food go further.
