Food Matters: New cafe opens doors in Ilkley

At a time when employment is almost a privilege, Julie Mountain bucked the trend and quit her job. Two months later – after a whirlwind of frenzied activity – Julie is back in work and poised to start a new chapter in her life as owner, chief cook and bottle-washer at Café J, the latest in the line-up of eateries and "places to be" in Ilkley. Situated along the town's iconic Grove, Julie is hoping that her café/bistro will fill a gap in the market and complement the competition.

Julie, who now lives in the town but hails from Keighley, is hoping that the caf will become a regular meeting place for locals as well as visitors. Her menu is a simple one but offers an appetising range of high quality, home-cooked and locally-sourced food.

And Julie prides herself on the fact that "home-made and home-cooked" means just that. Everything is made from scratch from soup to scones and from casserole to cakes.
