Food Matters: Pumpkin fun day for free

Riverford welcomes everyone to its annual Pumpkin Day on Sunday from 12-4pm on its organic farm at Newby Wiske. Entry is free.

Activities include picking a pumpkin for Halloween, pumpkin carving, veg games and apple pressing.

Green-fingered types can meet Riverford's local growers and find out more about organic farming, and keen cooks will pick up a tip or two in the seasonal cookery demos. And everyone will get a sneaky taste of Riverford's Christmas food. The Riverford team will serve up pumpkin soups and other organic refreshments.

Bonfire Night ice cream

A West Yorkshire ice cream maker and a confectionery firm have joined forces to create a new ice cream flavour based on a century-old toffee recipe.

Yummy Yorkshire Ice Cream and Ella Riley will launch the new flavour in time for Bonfire Night using the original Riley's Toffee Rolls recipe created in 1907.

Yummy Yorkshire founder Jeremy Holmes says: "We are extremely excited about our partnership with Ella Riley's to use this iconic Yorkshire toffee in our ice cream.

"We have spent many weeks perfecting the recipe so that the combination of ice cream and toffee is just right.

"The resulting flavour is a smooth toffee ice cream

with ripples of toffee throughout for that extra toffee fix. It's melt-in-the-mouth delicious with that warm buttery taste people so fondly remember."

Yummy Yorkshire will launch the Riley's Toffee Ice Cream flavour in time for its annual Bonfire and Firework Display on November 5.

Following the launch, the ice cream will go on sale, along with Riley's Toffee Sauce, in the Yummy Yorkshire ice cream parlour at Delph House Farm off the A629 between Huddersfield and Penistone.
