Fundraiser for youngster battling cancer

A PUB is holding a fundraising weekend to help a seven-year-old boy who has battled leukaemia for three years.

The Old School Inn on Epworth’s Battle Green has organised three days of events for Alexander Strong, of Burnham Road.

“He suffers from a form of leukaemia that only affects children,” said father Mark. “About four weeks ago he developed another tumour, which went from nothing to the size of a grapefruit in about a month. He lost about three kilograms in weight and has been having radiotherapy and we’re also trying more chemotherapy.

“We’re running out of what else is available in this country and we’re considering that we might have to go abroad – to Germany or America – for further treatment.”

The fundraiser starts with a race night on Friday and locals are being asked to donate prizes for a raffle on the night.
