Health Matters: Dementia care unit opened

The Ribblesdale Unit, Yorkshire's first care unit dedicated to younger people with dementia, has been opened by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Peter Hill.

According to the Alzheimer's Society, there are more than 16,000 younger people (classed as under 65) with dementia in the UK. Such people often have different needs and problems, which require a different approach, and although facilities offering specialist support are growing, progress is slow.

The 12-bed Ribblesdale Unit has been established within Bupa Care Services' specialist dementia care home, The Dales Nursing Home in Thornbury, between Bradford and Leeds, as part of a 700,000 extension and modernisation programme.

The Harley Medical Group in Leeds has been awarded a place on the IHAS Register of Injectable Cosmetic Providers. It now features on the consumer-facing register www. treatmentsyoucantrust.co.uk which will go live to the public in September.

The IHAS Register of Injectable Cosmetic Providers has been established to allow patients to choose providers of injectable treatments, such as Botox and Dermal Fillers that satisfy a range of high standards and training principles. To join the scheme, organisations and solo practitioners must meet the IHAS standards, which include that only doctors, dentists and registered nurses can be involved in the delivery of these injectable cosmetic treatments to patients.
