Heart-felt support for long-running children's charity

Alesha Dixon is the face of the 2010 Gold Heart Appeal and has designed the limited-edition Gold Heart Badge, to raise money for The Variety Club, one of the UK's longest running charities dedicated to sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people.

For Mother's Day, the charity aims to support inspirational mothers of sick and disabled children or those children born or diagnosed with a disability. For a minimum donation of 1, you can buy a Gold Heart Badge to support the courageous roles of these heroic and deserving mothers.

Every 1 raised will go towards enabling The Variety Club to provide vital, life-changing equipment and support to parents and children that need the most help.

Gold Heart Badges are available in all Co-operative stores, H Samuel branches, Cineworld and Odeons.

Meanwhile, Barnardo's is offering Mother's Day presents that will change lives across Yorkshire and be remembered for years to come. An inspiring range of life-changing ethical gifts, priced from 10 to 100, has been launched by the children's charity. Each comes with a personalised Mother's Day card.

A 10 gift will provide a kettle which will ensure a mother in temporary accommodation can heat up food and provide hot water for her children.

Just 15 can help children with autism to communicate more easily. They can be locked in a world of silence, unable to talk, communicate or understand. A special Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) enables an autistic child to communicate more easily with those around them.
