Heaven scent with a hint of luxury

Fragrance has become a total body and mind experience. Stephanie Smith reports.

Lush revolutionised High Street beauty retailing when it burst on to the market 15 years ago, its bright, fresh, oh-so-touchable bath bombs and gooey lotions wafting strong fragrance on to the pavement outside.

Last year, Lush set about revolutionising High Street beauty spa treatments, too, with the launch of its Synaesthesia massage, which uses tailored oils and scents combined with choreographed massage movements. There are only four Lush Spas in the country, and Leeds is lucky enough to have one of them.

Now Lush is launching its Validation Facial – again, it's not just a beauty treatment; it's also intended to lift the soul.

Lush has worked with Lady Helen Kennedy, behavioural therapist, to include details that tap into the sub-conscience through the music and words spoken to the essential oils and touch used.

First the therapist takes you around the shop to choose your facial products, then the treatment takes place to music composed by Simon Emmerson, of the Imagined Village English folk band, intertwined with confidence-boosting words and phrases, designed to take you on

a surreal journey of self- discovery, taking you to that slightly hypnotic state where positive words can get through to your subconscious.

It takes some getting used to, but all in all, it's a wonderful, hazy experience that seems to last longer than the allotted hour, and you do leave prepared to face the world with clean skin and a positive attitude. Validated, indeed.

The Validation Facial is 75 for one hour, plus consultation time. Call 0113 243 3626 for the

Lush Spa at Commercial Street, Leeds.

Perfect for summer holidays and sunny days out, Sisley has come up with travel-size versions of its beautiful Eaux de Sisley. There are three versions: No 1 is sparkling, floral and joyful like a summer garden; No 2 is fresh with white and green notes, surprisingly addictive; No 3 is seductive with shiny red notes. Each 50ml travel-size bottle costs 57, from Sisley, at Harvey Nichols, Leeds, and Brown's of York.

Is there no end to his talents? First fashion, then fragrance, then film directing and now... lipstick.

Next month, Tom Ford is all set to lunch his first make-up products, a range of glorious silky lipsticks in three colour stories (nudes, brights and purply darks).

I've had a sneak preview, and the shades really are like no others.

Set to retail at 35 each, so not cheap, but you're supposed to see it more as a key wardrobe accessory.

Dress your lips in Tom Ford.
