Let spring burst in to bloom in your home

On the local news recently, there were reports that the flowers we normally associate with this time of year have been delayed due to the cold, dry and snowy January.

However, we are expected to have a very vibrant Easter as far as flowers are concerned. This is also true of fashion and interior design. When the flowers come out in spring, the design world becomes awash with colour and flowers, too. I don't think there is anything better after the cold, drab winter months than to welcome in the spring with bright, bold designs – whether that be through fashion or interiors.

There is certainly no need to worry about the lack of flower power outside when you can create your own in-house floral paradise. Plus the best thing about florals is that they can be kitsch and cute or wild

and dramatic depending on your tastes.

The word "floral" often puts people off but you don't have to go for a room your Gran would be proud of. Instead of opting for pastel shades,

why not swap for bright fuchsia pinks, vivid lime greens and brilliant white.

This gives you plenty of scope to create a modern take on traditional florals.

Also, if fashion has taught us anything this past year, it's not to be afraid of mixing patterns and colours. Try mixing a bright sofa with a vivid patterned chair or two. My choice would be the Verity Master chair combined with the normal Verity chair in a plain fabric. These are available from Barker and Stonehouse (www.barkerandstonehouse.co.

uk). Florals don't have to be confined to fabrics. Why not try your hand at creating your own floral sideboard? Find an old chest or set of drawers and paint in a bright colour. Then find a super floral wallpaper and use spray mount to attach to the drawer fronts.

You could also replace the drawer or cupboard handles with some cute ones from www.bombayduck.co.uk.

Finally, add in some great accessories like cushions, vases and rugs.
