New exhibition celebrates 25 years of eclectic creativity

IT started from a passion to make art accessible to all, and has gained an international reputation over the last 25 years.

Now, Wakefield-based arts organisation Faceless Arts will celebrate a quarter of a century of creativity will a retrospective exhibition at The Hepworth’s contemporary arts space, The Calder.

Over the last 25 years Faceless Arts has grown from street theatre to providing workshops and training across the UK, Slovenia and Turkey, as well as developing the Wakefield Kite Festival in 2001 and leading Pontefract Liquorice Festival for eight years.

The exhibition includes some of the company’s most vivid work, including masks created for street performance The Conference of the Birds and the Grand Depart-inspired Les Bicyclettes, as well as a programme of free events.

Artistic director and co-founder Bev Adams said: “Faceless 25: A Retrospective explores and celebrates the imagination and creativity of the artists and communities with whom the company has had the privilege and pleasure of working with over the last 25 years.”

The exhibition runs until Sunday June 21.
