Plant of the week: Gayfeather

Got a hot spot? A hot, dry spot? A hot, dry spot where you would love to grow something colourful but don't know what?

Gayfeather (Liatris spicata) could be the answer. It hails from the wide open spaces of the North American prairies, so that tells you that it likes plenty of heat and not a lot of moisture.

Try to grow it in damp ground and it will rot. It flowers in late summer, stands more than a foot in height and is loved by bees.
