Plant of the Week: Lysimachia

Better known as Creeping Jenny, an appropriate name for a delightful ground-hugging plant with the invasive tendencies of Napoleon in his prime.

The green leaves are always there; the vibrant yellow blooms appear in July and go on throughout August and even into September. Any soil will do – and even where there isn't soil, creeping stems will spread outwards. Great for covering poor and difficult sites, even concrete – as long as its roots are in earth, everything will be fine. Let it creep and crawl and it will cover eyesores; let it climb up walls and over banks – when it gets too aggressive, simply pull it up. One of those little garden treasures you either love or hate.
