Putting the boots on for Memory Walk

Emmerdale actor and Alzheimer's Society supporter Duncan Preston put on his walking shoes last week to launch Alzheimer's Society's first flagship Memory Walk in Leeds.

Yorkshire-born Duncan, who plays Douglas Potts, joined younger people with dementia and their carers who attend the Armley Grange Day Centre to open registrations for the event, which is due to take place on September 19 at Roundhay Park at 2pm.

Memory Walk is Alzheimer's Society's biggest fundraising event, held in hundreds of locations across the country every September. This year there will be 12 flagship walks across the country, including the new Leeds event.

Duncan says: "Memory Walk is an important event for people all around the country who are affected by dementia, and to have a flagship walk in Leeds this year is great news.

"Since I became a patron for Alzheimer's Society in 2006, I have met many carers and people with dementia who are an absolute inspiration. Memory Walk is an opportunity for us to make a difference to those who are living with dementia in the Yorkshire area, and I'm confident that the first flagship walk will be a huge success, so I would encourage people to sign up and support the event."

There are over 50,000 people with dementia in Yorkshire, and the money raised by the flagship walk will help them and their families to receive support from the Alzheimer's Society.
