Review: 44 Inch Chest (18)****

Expletives abound in Malcolm Venville's drama from a screenplay by Louis Mellis and David Scinto, set in the murky dives of London's criminal underworld. Dodgy geezer Colin Diamond (Ray Winstone) is enraged when his wife Liz (Joanne Whalley) announces the end of their marriage and her plans to leave him for another man.

With horrible inevitability, Colin takes matters into his own blood-stained hands by kidnapping the other man (Melvil Poupaud) and holding the lover hostage, his fate uncertain.

Flanked by his gangland chums – Archie (Tom Wilkinson), Mal (Stephen Dillane), Meredith (Ian McShane) and Old Man Peanut (John Hurt) –

Colin debates whether to kill his wife's new lover, becoming increasingly unhinged with each passing minute.
