Review: Mitchell/Ogawa Duo ***

Two celebrated and outstanding musicians whom I greatly admire, the violinist, Madeleine Mitchell, and pianist, Noriko Ogawa, came to the Northern Aldborough Festival to make their much anticipated duo debut.

Three familiar sonatas by Mozart, Debussy and Franck shared the programme with more seldom heard works from Frank Bridge and the Japanese composer,Toru Takemitsu.

On paper it seemed an enormously interesting evening with Mitchell's elegant tone and infallible intonation in the Mozart E minor sonata, and Ogawa's innate affection for Debussy and special relationship with the works of Takemitsu

And given time it will grow to be a formidable partnership.
