Review: Treeless Mountain (PG)

The ebb and flow of life in South Korea unfolds through the eyes of two young sisters in So Yong Kim's haunting drama.

Six-year-old Jin (Hee Yeon Kim) and four-year old Bin (Song Hee Kim) are taken by their mother (Soo Ah Lee) to stay with her cranky sister-in-law (Mi Hyang Kim) who treats the young sisters as slaves. In time, Jin and Bin's mother takes them to see their grandmother (Boon Tak Park), who lives on a farm. However, even in these new surroundings, the outlook remains unremittingly bleak.
