Carol Bartle, head of pre-prep, who spearheaded the project, said: "We consulted the children at every stage about what they would like to see in the space and the kinds of things they would like in the gardens.
"We compiled a book of their pictures and pieces of writing on the subject and also made a DVD in which they talked about their ideas."

Hide AdThe resulting outdoor space includes a herb garden, a vegetable patch, a sandpit, buddy bench and mini beast hotel and fruit trees so that they grow – and eat – their own apples, pears and plums.
There is also a separate play area and music garden with giant musical instruments, made out of recyclable materials.
Headmistress Yvonne Wilkinson said: "The gardens are not only pleasant places for the children to spend time, they also provide a huge number of new educational opportunities."
