Sir Tom Courtenay to become Honorary Freeman of Hull

legendary actor Sir Tom Courtenay is being made an Honorary Freeman of Hull tomorrow.

The Hull-born star, 80, who rose to fame in the 1960s with films including Billy Liar and Doctor Zhivago, will be presented with the Honorary Freeman scroll at the city’s Guildhall. The title is the highest honour the council can give. Sir Tom helped raise the city’s profile by narrating a Philip Larkin poem in the video This City Belongs To Everyone, part of the winning bid for City of Culture 2017.

Council leader Steve Brady said: “Sir Tom is a legendary actor who has always been very proud of his Hull roots.”
