Six of the best as nursery strikes gold

Last week's Harrogate Spring Flower Show saw Slack Top Nursery & Garden, in Hebden Bridge, collect its sixth consecutive Gold medal for its display of alpine and woodland plants.

"To win another Gold medal is a great accolade for our small nursery," said nurseryman Michael Mitchell.

"It has been such a tough winter, with temperatures down to minus 16 and snow on the ground for so many weeks that at one point, my wife, Allison, and I were getting very concerned about what we would have to display at the Harrogate Show.

"Thankfully, it warmed up at the last minute, and the display was one of our most colourful yet. As always, it is really wonderful to have such strong support from all our regular customers across Yorkshire, and we'd like to say a huge thank-you."

This year sees Slack Top's second appearance at the RHS Tatton Flower Show (July 21-25), which will be a big challenge for the small nursery.

The Mitchells will also be going to Holker Garden Festival, in Cumbria, (June 4-6), along with many other one-day events.
