Six of the Best: patterned spring macs

New spring macs and coats are rolling into the High Street and online stores and this season there are some gorgeous and unusual patterns and prints to choose from. Stephanie Smith picks out her favourites .

Caramel and black stripe tie belted mac

Price: 80.

DETAIL: A fabulously chic little number, with a slight classic nautical feel, thanks to the stripes, mixed with contemporary zip fastening, despte the buttons (I think I'd take the buttons off, actually). Love the tie belt, and the colour.

Suits: Slender and pear shapes.

Floral print beige belted short mac

DETAIL: An absolutely wonderful little coat, in a gorgeous dusky beige colour with cute tiny delicate red, white and green floral print. Quite short so great with trousers and jeans, but best worn open over ditsy, floaty dresses. Don't be scared of teaming with another floral print, but try accessories in nude or brown leather.

Suits: Petites and curvy.

Leopard print belted high collar mac

Price: 55.

DETAIL: Isme is fast acquiring a reputation as a must-have destination for mature style-seekers and this eye-catching coat is a great example of the statement wear it is offering. Flattering structured shape and would look great over sexy little black dress.

Suits: Both curvy and slim, all ages.

Poppy and sketch pattern tie-belt mac

Price: 90.

DETAIL: There are some really lovely and unusual prints around for macs this season and this is a great example, even if it is slightly reminiscent of curtains. Very very pretty, great flattering shape and would look amazing over nude or red or pink shift or tunic dress.

Suits: Pear shapes and slim to medium.

Grey lace print belted high collar coat

From: Marks & Spencer.

Price: 69.

DETAIL: Highly unusual and totally fabulous, this lace print coat is just perfect for days and nights out when you want to look smart and sophisticated. Would look good over long or short dresses and skirts, and especially good over bright colours, including floral prints. A real winner again from M&S.

Suits: All shapes and sizes.

Black and white stripe belted mac

From: George at Asda.

Price: 28.

DETAIL: Super striking and a great flattering shape, nipping in the waist, perfect over black or nude to tone down the pattern, or hot pink, orange or bright green, if you really want to make a bold style statement. Excellent price too. Asda really seems to be upping its game this season.

Suits: All, including petites, wear open if larger.
