Snowdrop feast premier for hall

Goldsborough Hall, near Knaresborough, is holding its first ever Snowdrop Day, on Sunday, February 20.

Owners Mark and Clare Oglesby bought the Hall (once the home of Princess Mary, the Queen's aunt) in 2005 and Clare has restored the grounds to their former splendour.

"As we have cleared more and more of the woodlands, we have been stunned by the thousands of snowdrops which have emerged," she said. "During late January and early February there is a carpet of white that surrounds the Hall."

Visitors will be able to enjoy an abundance of hellebores and aconites which will also be in full bloom. They can also enjoy a stroll along the quarter-mile Lime Tree Walk, which was planted by royal visitors to the Hall in the past. Plaques on the trees show the dates when dignitaries, including King George V and Queen Mary, planted them.

Goldsborough Hall's gardens will be open from 10am-4pm (last admission), adults 5 and children under 16 go free.

The grounds will also be open under the National Garden Scheme on March 27 and July 24 2011.
