A star is worn

Who are you wearing this season? Stephanie Smith checks out celebrity inspired and created collections.

What's in a name?

High Street credibility and boosted sales – that's what an increasing number of fashion brands are hoping for, as they look to grab themselves a little of the stardust associated with top TV shows, style icons and pop singers.

This season Lipsy has teamed up with singer-songwriter Pixie Lott on the Pixie Collection, co-designed by the 18-year-old blonde starlet and inspired by her distinctive rock chick style.

There are two looks: Pixie Festival, which combines soft vintage-style cotton dresses, bleached denim and fringed waistcoats with slouchy print vests and draped jersey maxi dresses; and Pixie Party, which features oversized animal prints and embellishment on chiffon layered dresses and studded vest dresses. An autumn/winter Pixie collection will follow later in the year. Some pieces, like the grey maxi dress shown here, are highly wearable for all ages and figures.

Meanwhile, Miss Selfridge has collaborated with US TV series Gossip Girl, creating a collection of eight dresses based on the styles of the four female lead characters, Blair, Serena, Jenny and Vanessa, and the clothes created for them by designer Eric Daman.

"The dresses we've created based on the characters fit perfectly with our spring/summer 2010 ranges," says Miss Selfridge creative director Yasmin Yusuf.

"Our customers love the show and the styles of the girls so the partnership is a perfect match."

Peacocks has teamed up with style icon Pearl Lowe, who has designed a collection of vintage inspired tea dresses and accessories for spring 2010, modelled by her daughter and fellow style icon Daisy Lowe (she's been stepping out with new Doctor Who Matt Smith). Pearl's new spring collection is a celebration of the English countryside, inspired by summer picnics and her family life in Somerset. It launches in Peacocks this weekend, with prices starting from 14 for a slogan tee.

Statuesque model and TV presenter Lisa Butcher designs a collection for Long Tall Sally, this season with some beautiful glitzy dresses and easy-to-wear pieces that are just perfect for summer – ideal for all ages and sizes, as long as you're tall (might be worth trying to stretch yourself a bit if you're not).

So celebrity fashion shows no sign of being a blip. Word is that Cheryl Cole has been approached by fashionable Los Angeles store Kitson to design her own line as she hopes to crack the US market. Go, Cheryl.
