Review: Disney On Ice ***

Sheffield Arena

I was a little wary when my three-year-old son Thomas wanted to wear his Buzz Lightyear outfit to watch the Disney on Ice show at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.

I needn’t have fretted as we joined hordes of other families with similarly-dressed offspring for an evening of entertainment.

Princesses, fairies and cowboys. And that was just the audience.

Thomas was not disappointed. Mickey and Minnie Mouse were first on the ice and the unbelieving look from my son was priceless as he waved at characters he has grown up watching.

Fans of Cars, Tinkerbell and The Little Mermaid were treated to some amazing costumes, acrobatics and dance routines that were tightly choreographed and slick. After a short interval to stock up on an abundance of Disney gifts – Thomas opted for the Toy Story aliens gift mug, full of blue ice, and neon-twirling Cars rattle – came the main event.

Woody, Buzz and friends are talked about like family friends, so to finally meet them was a thrill for Thomas.

Set to a blazing soundtrack, the skating characters were fabulous entertainment and even had the dads clapping along by the end.

If you missed out this time, don’t worry. Disney on Ice presents Princesses and Heroes at the Motorpoint Arena on the weekend of March 30 to April 1, 2012.

Tickets on 0114 2565656.
