Tour to show poetry is better than therapy

THE founder of National Poetry Day is to host an event at a Doncaster library next month as part of his national tour.

William Sieghart will appear at Tickhill Library on February 11 between 6.30pm and 8pm promoting his Poetry on Prescription initiative.

He will read from his book Winning Words and explain why he believes poetry can be better than therapy, as well as prescribing a poem for any problem that is presented to him.

Mr Sieghart said: “In our increasingly alienated modern lives, an appropriate poem can be more helpful than many forms of therapy. We love our poetry but are often intimidated by it.

“Yet we consume more greetings cards than any other nation, enjoy our chants on the football terraces and have contributed significantly to the canon of rap music.”

Tickets are £1.50 and available from Tickhill Library or by calling 01302 742871.
