Video: Sheffield’s Man of Steel in 3D
DESIGNERS working on the Man of Steel statue set to tower over the M1 near Sheffield are getting extra help visualising the finished product with a special ‘virtual sculpture’.
Specialists from Sheffield Hallam University used lasers to measure a scale model of the planned 30-metre high statue, before a digital version was created at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Catcliffe.
The Man of Steel is due to be installed at Kimberworth, Rotherham, in 2015.
Artist Steve Mehdi said: “The 3D technology has allowed us to show not just what the installation will look like, but how it works as a long-term community resource.”
