Research by booking company Seatwave put the city at the top of a list of “easy listening” nights out, with audiences choosing Kylie Minogue, Peter Andre, Lady Gaga, Bryan Adams, Michael Buble, James Blunt and Enrique Inglesias over “edgier” .

Sheffield was at number eight on the list, with one in 20 tickets for those artists - while in London they made up only two per cent of audiences.

A spokesman for the company said: “You could argue that Londoners have better taste in music than their northern counterparts. However, the fact is that when it comes to a fun night out, it’s hard to beat a Peter Andre gig.”
