Yorkshire singer Des Horsfall teams with Who legend in Ronnie Lane tribute

When The Who guitarist heard that roots/country rock singer Des Horsfall was recording a trilogy of albums inspired by, and dedicated to, the memory of 60s musical great Lane, he said he had to be involved.

Townshend insisted on writing a track, Chameleon, dedicated to his old friend. The lyrics were supplied by Lane’s former wife, Kate Lane. Her contribution has been described as a moving ‘love letter’ to her former husband.

The voices of Horsfall and Townshend combine to bring out rarely expressed emotions and feelings.

Des Horsfall has supported such luminaries as Joe Ely, Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris. A protégé of the legendary Alexis Korner, he has “had a few skirmishes with fame”. Late in life he discovered and fell in love with Ronnie Lane’s post-Faces project Slim Chance and became so obsessed he decided to make a trilogy of albums inspired by and dedicated to the spirit and humour of one of this country’s greatest musical mavericks.

The first album in the series was 2011’s The Good Gentleman’s Tonic which was critically acclaimed for its masterly songwriting. The follow-up, The Bastard’s Tin, is due out in the new year.
