200 years of history comes together in merger

CHARTERED accountants Ashby Berry & Co and Coulsons are set to merge.

The Scarborough firms, which together have nearly 200 years of history in the town, will form new company Ashby Berry Coulsons. The move will see Ashby Berry leave its current premises in Albemarle Crescent and consolidate operations in Belgrave Crescent – the site of Coulsons’ present offices.

Ashby Berry has 15 staff in Scarborough and a further five between its Malton and Helmsley offices. Coulsons also has 15 staff members in Scarborough. Ashby Berry is to retain its Malton and Helmsley offices which will be rebranded under the new company name.

Tim Jones, partner at Ashby Berry, said: “I believe this merger will enable us to offer clients the best of both worlds. Ashby Berry Coulsons Ltd will be a larger entity meaning it will be well placed to serve new clients but with the personal touch we have always brought to our existing accounts as independent practices.

“It’s a very exciting time for both practices. The amalgamation will strengthen our position in Scarborough’s business community and give the new company significantly more impact.”

Mr Jones added that Ashby Berry and Coulsons were both of a similar size with similar client profiles, making them a “good fit” for the merger.

The new company will continue offering a mix of accountancy, audit, tax and financial management services to businesses of all sizes, as well as tax advice to individuals. He said: “I think the two practices will dovetail together very well. I’m not expecting our clients to notice anything different, except the change of name and address of course.”

David Bryden, partner at Coulsons, said the merger was forecast to be completed by the end of this month. He said: “As practices we have both spent many years building reputations for offering high quality, professional services so it makes sense we come together and create a larger business through this merger. Between us Coulsons and Ashby Berry have nearly two centuries of success under their belts and I’m confident the move will ensure further success for many years to come.”
