The site in iPort will be the company’s third in Doncaster, and Amazon said its opening, in 2017, is aimed at keeping up with “growing customer demand” in the UK.

The firm will recruit for a range of positions, including operations managers, engineers and IT specialists.

Amazon, which has faced questions over pay and conditions in its warehouses, said that the permanent employees will receive a “comprehensive benefits package”, including private medical insurance, a pension plan and subsidised meals.

“We are delighted to announce that we will be creating 500 new permanent full-time jobs with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits starting on day one by opening our third fulfilment centre in Doncaster in summer 2017,” said John Tagawa, Amazon’s vice president of UK operations.

“We already have two fulfilment centres in Doncaster so know from experience that there is strong talent in the region who would be well suited to working for Amazon,”

Amazon is gearing up for its biggest ever Christmas and the new UK jobs tally at the internet giant now stands at 4,000 for the year.

In July, Amazon’s UK boss Doug Gurr said that it is “business as usual” following Britain’s decision to quit the European Union.
