The firm says it will provide breakdown services to NHS workers travelling to and from work during the coronavirus crisis.

A spokesman for the company said: "To say thank you to all NHS workers for your tireless work and commitment, we’re providing free breakdown service to and from work during the coronavirus crisis. Whether you're an AA member or not.

"We'll send out a patrol to try and fix your vehicle on the spot. If they can't, we'll take you to where you need to be.

"You don't need AA membership and you won't be charged for calling us out to help. Just give us a call and show your NHS ID to the patrol when they arrive."

The terms and conditions specify: "If you have an existing AA membership please report the breakdown via the AA App or in the usual way. Breakdown assistance under AA Membership breakdown cover is not restricted to journeys to and from work, and you may hold additional benefits.

"This offer is available to NHS workers based within the UK only.

"This is a time limited offer which makes free breakdown assistance available (at home or at the roadside), to NHS workers who break down on the way to or from work.

"You will be asked to show your NHS ID to the patrol to prove you’re an NHS worker and eligible for this service.

"Any parts supplied to repair your vehicle must be paid for. e.g. a new battery.

"If you put the wrong fuel in your car this isn't covered as part of the offer. Fuel Assist can help and can be contacted 24/7 on 0808 271 6693.

"This discretionary service is not AA Membership: service users do not become AA Members, do not hold any AA Membership breakdown cover entitlements including, without restriction, any onward travel benefits or parts/garage labour cover and do not have access to AA member benefits.

"We reserve the right to change or withdraw the service at any time."
