Acquisition saves five jobs at chemist

A YORKSHIRE pharmacy has expanded after buying another chemist out of administration.

J M McGill has acquired Knollbeck Pharmacy in Barnsley following the firm’s administration in July 2010, protecting five jobs in the area. Knollbeck was due to close in the next few months before the deal with J M McGill was struck, backed by Santander Corporate Banking.

The pharmacy, which is based on Knollbeck Lane, will be refurbished to bring it in line with the other J M McGill premises.

Mr McGill said: “I’m pleased we have been able to acquire the business on Knollbeck Lane and protect valuable local jobs.”

Liz Pickering, relationship director at Santander, added: “Jonathan has an excellent track record and I’m confident he will make a success of the new site, as he has with all the others in the past.”
