Robert Hough, chairman of Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, said that the announcement reflected the strategy set out in the master plan to maximise the potential of the whole airport site.

Peel Logistics, a joint venture between Peel Land and Property and Macquarie Capital, is now a major delivery partner on the site. Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “This positive announcement comes just weeks before the opening of the FARRRS Airport Link Road and only a few weeks since our major new carrier announcement with Flybe delivering connectivity to three European centres of trade and two major European hubs.”

The approved development site already has planning consent for over two million square feet of office, warehousing and distribution units and designated Enterprise Zone status.

Martin McKervey, from the Sheffield City Region LEP, said: “Now is the time for business to come together and back its airport.”
