AFI hits the heights with acquisition

AFI, which provides safety-related training and machines for working at height, has acquired the assets of UTN Training.

Based in Wakefield in the same building as AFI’s headquarters, UTN Training, a £1.1m turnover business which has been operating for 16 years, has 15 employees and also delivers safety-related courses. The business will continue to operate from the same premises and retain the UTN Training name, as part of AFI Training.

All its employees are being taken on by AFI. AFI has 275 staff and a turnover of £30m, while its 20-strong depot network includes bases in Wakefield and Hull. The acquisition comes just months after AFI bought the assets of the Shropshire-based company Instant Training. Nick Selley, AFI Group business development director, said: “AFI’s acquisition of the assets of a second training company within just three months highlights our commitment to developing the safety training side of our business. It is also a further example of how AFI’s strong financial position is allowing us to capitalise on opportunities in the market.”
