AFOS gets smoking signals from China

A HULL-based manufacturer of food equipment has broken into the Chinese market with two major contract wins.

AFOS, a smoking kiln specialist, will export kilns to two leading fish processing companies in the Shanghai area.

One customer will use the kiln for cold smoking 35 tonnes of haddock a week and the other will be used for the hot and cold smoking of a variety of fish including salmon. The kilns have been fitted with real online data capture to enable clients to keep check on production from anywhere in the world.

Peter Martin, sales director, said: "This is the first time in the company's 60-year history that we have been able to break into the market in China.

"There is tremendous potential for our products in China and indeed throughout Asia and we hope to be announcing further new wins in the region in the near future.

"Fish processing is now a global business and our remote monitoring technology complete with password protected systems gives our customers the ability to operate our kilns from anywhere in the world."

The orders follow AFOS's success in Australia where it refurbished five kilns.

In total the company has picked up more than 700,000 worth of orders from China and Australia in recent weeks.
