Airport director flying off to new challenges after quitting board

Carl Lapworth was operations and engineering director. He joined the private equity-owned business in 2008.

His directorship was formally terminated on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman said an interim structure is in place and promised further announcements.

She told the Yorkshire Post: “Carl Lapworth has left the company to pursue the next stage of his career, which he will announce in due course.

“During his time with the airport, Carl made a significant contribution to the airport’s development, including the planning and delivery of the 2012 terminal development programme which was successfully completed in November 2012.

“He also built positive relationships with key external stakeholders and contributed to the broad development agenda of the business. Carl Leaves LBIA with our best wishes for the future and will return to his home base in Bristol.”

Mr Lapworth, who was unavailable for comment, spent a decade in a similar role at Bristol Airport, according to a social media profile.

The airport published details of its financial performance earlier this year. The company said turnover increased seven per cent to £22.5m in the year ending March 2012. Passenger numbers rose by 4.8 per cent to 2.94m. Core earnings after exceptional items increased to £3.9m, the company added.

Bridgepoint Capital bought the airport in March 2007 in a transaction worth £145.5m.
