Appointments: Barrister brings her expertise to regulatory department at Gordons

Yorkshire law firm Gordons has enhanced its regulatory department with the appointment of Joanne Hall, who also becomes the first barrister to join the firm.

She joins Gordons, which has offices in Leeds and Bradford, from Irwin Mitchell’s London and Sheffield offices where she was an associate in the firm’s regulatory and criminal investigations group.

Prior to that, Ms Hall worked in London where she spent five years at the criminal bar and over four years as an associate at DLA Piper with secondments to the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

Business advisory firm Deloitte has added two new partners to its team of experts in Yorkshire and the North-East.

Matthew Hughes is appointed as partner within the firm’s audit practice, joining the team from Deloitte’s Cambridge office.

Consulting specialist Toby Brook is promoted to partner, further strengthening the 47 strong Yorkshire and North-East consulting practice.

He is an expert in programme leadership, focusing on the financial services sector.

Leeds-based Blacks Solicitors has launched a mediation department within its family law team and has appointed specialist mediator Viv Hulland.

With more than17 years experience as a trained Mediator, Ms Hulland is a member of Resolution and was one of the earliest in the UK to train with the Family Mediators Association in 1994.

Skipton-based Copper Dragon Brewery has appointed Robert Percival as an associate brewer.

He joins from John Smiths where he worked in quality assurance. Before that, he worked for Scottish & Newcastle after graduating from Leeds University in 2008.

Leeds-based Callcredit Marketing Solutions has appointed Nigel Costello as head of propositions and Neil Vincent as insight manager. Mr Costello has held senior roles at Asda Financial Services, Freeman Grattan Holding and RBS Insurance Partnerships.

Barnett Waddingham, the UK’s largest independent firm of actuaries, administrators and consultants, has promoted Ben Roach to Partner in its Leeds office. Mr Roach joined Barnett Waddingham in 1999 and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 2005.

As well as his client responsibilities, he is secretary of Barnett Waddingham’s pensions actuarial technical committee and a member of the firm’s corporate advice team.

Leeds-based Hitachi Capital (UK) has announced the appointment of Gerald Grimes to the UK board.

York-based civil engineering and road construction and surfacing specialist, Ridings Construction, yesterday announced the appointment of Chris Deighton as General Manager with immediate effect.

Mr Deighton has worked in the construction industry for 40 years.
