Arco joins forces with
Hull FC to boost work prospects for students

Safety firm Arco and the Hull FC Community Foundation have entered into a three-year partnership supporting community projects to help local students improve their employability skills.

Ten students, who are not in education, employment or training, visited Arco’s head office to take part in three interactive activities.

Feedback from earlier sessions showed that students wanted to experience real business situations. So prior to the training day, students were invited to send in a copy of their CV with a covering letter, apply for a role identical to one of the many jobs at Arco, such as a trade counter assistant or customer services advisor.

On the day, students experienced a mock interview with two members of Arco interviewing each student, giving them valuable experience and preparing them for the real situation.

Students were then taken on a tour of the head office and were shown presentations in individual departments to get an overview and understanding of the various roles. CV and interview master classes then finished off the day, when students were given valuable feedback on their performance with advice and guidance on how to develop their skills and improve interview techniques.

Adam Pearson, chairman and owner of Hull FC, said: “Students gained valuable job application and interview experience, which will help them to prepare for the world of work and improve their employability skills. It offered the opportunity to young students within the FC Learning Centre to practise interview techniques.

“The world of work and CVs can be alien to some of the students so any opportunity to practise their skills and receive constructive feedback is crucial.”
