Arla goes local in choice of firms to build £150m dairy

ARLA has appointed Yorkshire companies Caddick Construction and NG Bailey to build its new £150m fresh milk dairy in Buckinghamshire.

Knottingley-based Caddick has started on site as principal contractor, with works expected to take 75 weeks to complete.

Ilkley-based NG Bailey will be responsible for the mechanical and electrical works and is due on site in June.

The construction project will support up to 1,000 jobs over the next 18 months, according to Arla.

Jakob Nielsen, project director at the Scandinavian cooperative, said: “We’re extremely pleased to be working in partnership with both CCL and NG Bailey on this development.

“Both companies have a proven track record of delivering projects to the highest standards, and throughout the tender process they both demonstrated a good understanding of our building and environmental requirements.”

Both companies worked on other Arla projects, including the Stourton dairy in Leeds. They are both family owned.

Peter Lauritzen, the Leeds-based chief executive of Arla Foods UK, said: “We are delighted to be underway with this project.

“In addition to it being one of the largest construction projects in the UK, we have ambitions for it to be the world’s first zero carbon fresh milk dairy, which will help Arla achieve its growth ambitions in the UK.”

The Yorkshire Post’s Buy Yorkshire campaign is encouraging companies to ‘think local’ whenever they need to buy goods or services.
