Asda makes the Mint a second city base

SUPERMARKET giant Asda opened a second base in Leeds city centre yesterday after 350 staff moved into a new office development.

Asda, which has been based at Asda House on Great Wilson Street since the Eighties, extended their home across the city centre by taking two floors at The Mint in Holbeck.

Asda president and chief executive Andy Clarke officially opened the new building.

He said: “Asda is Leeds born and bred and I’m delighted that we have been able to extend our commitment to our home city, as well as offer a fantastic new space for our colleagues.”

Asda has taken two floors of the building and kitted them out with a new staff restaurant and meeting rooms.

Staff from Asda’s accounts payable, customer contact centre and IT teams will be based at the new space.

Asda decided to take additional space in the city centre earlier in the year to accommodate its growing number of staff – over 2,700 are based at the retailer’s headquarters.

Asda recently acquired 147 Netto stores which it has been transforming into new Asda supermarkets.

Colin Hayes of Deltalord, developer of The Mint, said: “The considered fit-out by Asda’s design team has fully realised the architects vision of a light-filled, high-tech modern office space. The building and it’s surrounding environment is now animated and enlivened by Asda’s investment in the area.”
