Assurance of growth from new chief

PARTNER Gary Harding has been appointed Northern head of Ernst & Young's assurance practice.

Mr Harding, who joined the global firm in February 2009, said he intended to drive "significant growth" and establish a market leading practice.

He said: "We are investing in our audit practice across the North and winning market share. We are one of few firms who are continuing

to recruit in assurance in the local market.

"In the last 12 months we have increased our market focus and are winning more new work by broadening and strengthening our relationships and focusing on good client service."

He joined Ernst & Young from Grant Thornton last year, with fellow assurance partner Alastair Nuttall. He works with listed businesses, large private companies and entrepreneurs and has particular experience in the retail, leisure and manufacturing sectors.

David Buckley, Yorkshire senior partner at Ernst & Young, said: "We think it's really important to continue to build our business even in tough times. In the downturn we have continued to invest in new partners and new services.

"Gary will give clear focus and direction to our assurance practice to achieve growth and increase our market share further."
