Avacta appoints US academic to the board

DIAGNOSTICS specialist the Avacta Group yesterday revealed that a US academic has been appointed to its board.

The Wetherby-based company announced that Michael Albin has become a non-executive director.

Mr Albin has a Phd in chemistry from Pennsylvania State University and he also carried out postdoctoral research in biochemistry at the California Institute of Techn- ology,

He has wide-ranging experience in the life sciences sector.

Alastair Smith, the chief executive of Avacta, said yesterday: “I am absolutely delighted that Michael is joining the board of Avacta.

“With his extensive network of contacts in the life sciences industry in the US he provides a skillset which will considerably strengthen the board of Avacta and he will have important input to the strategic positioning of the group’s businesses in the future, particularly with respect to the all-important US market.”

Avacta was spun out of the University of Leeds in 2004.
