Bailey in footprint pledge

ONE of Yorkshire's biggest family-owned businesses, building services provider NG Bailey, has pledged to reduce its carbon footprint by 20 per cent by the end of 2012.

The company, based near Ilkley, wants to help the government meet tough carbon reduction plans of 34 per cent by 2020 and last year managed to reduce its emissions by 7 per cent.

NG Bailey hopes to reduce its impact on sites through the development of environmentally friendly site cabins, which will be launched on all new company sites from next month.

It also wants to halve its waste to landfill, reduce water consumption and use more sustainable methods of construction.

Cal Bailey, sustainability director, said: "We have set ourselves some challenging targets, but ones we felt necessary in order to do our bit for the good of the planet.

"By the very nature of what we do, we help our clients to be more sustainable, so it's only right that we practice what we preach."
