Bestobell Marine valves to be used onboard eco-friendly ships

high-pressure valves from Sheffield will be used in ships powered by a more environmentally-friendly fuel.

Bestobell Marine has won a contract to provide Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) with specialist valves for use in liquified natural gas (LNG)-powered ships.

The South Korean company is building some of the first marine vehicles to use LNG, which is considered less harmful to the environment than traditional diesel fuel.

Bestobell has developed glass Globe valves for use in the vehicles over the last two years. They will be ready for delivery by the nd of 2014

The company is currently the only manufacturer that carries the necessary approvals for use in ships systems.

Bestobell is now in ‘advanced discussions’ to supply the valves to other gas projects.
