Scarborough business advisory and accountancy firm, Fortus will provide business owners with the information they need to look beyond the coronavirus crisis.

Having been supporting and advising local businesses for more than 80 years as Winn & Co, the new Fortus brand was launched on April 1st at the height of lockdown.

Fortus supports a wide range of local businesses from 11 sites mainly around Yorkshire and the Midlands, and is advising business owners to start planning now for the future and what a beyond COVID world looks like.

To enable owners to do that, Fortus has produced a wide range of content on the hub that covers key areas such as:

Finance and funding People Tax credits Business information and decision making Property Risk and assurance Business opportunities

With people being one of the main areas that business owners need to plan for, the hub contains comprehensive advice on how to create a return to work plan for your employees and also details of how Fortus has devised its own return to work strategy, which business owners will find helpful when formulating their own.

Finance is also a huge area of concern now and in the next 12 months for many business owners. Most of the measures designed to help businesses involve deferring payments on taxes, loans or rent and these commitments have been ‘kicked down the road’ like a noisy tin can. None of these commitments have gone away.

Loan schemes from the Banks, like CBILS, ‘Bounce Back’ or the ‘Future Fund’ are all just that – loans. Unlike Grants, they must be paid back, and most have a structure that commence repayments within 12 months of drawdown. In addition, many have interest paid by the government, but only for the first year, after which businesses are responsible for paying the interest.

The hub will help businesses focus beyond today, and Fortus says working together will help give business owners the knowledge, strength and courage to get through this and come out the other side stronger, smarter and with a business that’s fit for the future.

Commenting on the launch of the hub, Sharon Clipperton, Director at Fortus said: “COVID-19 continues to affect personal and business lives now and will undoubtedly do so long into the future. As we all try and imagine what a ‘beyond COVID’ world will look like, now more than ever as a business owner, it’s all about protecting your people and your business. It’s also about strong leadership, thinking and planning, whilst at the same time, remaining agile.”

Fortus is well placed to help local business owners plan for the future with their service offerings ranging from not only accountancy and tax but also property and asset management, HR, business performance improvement, corporate finance, risk and assurance and strategic planning.

Craig Herbert, Executive Director at Fortus added: “We all know the here and now is more important than ever to local business owners, but we also believe now is a time for business owners to get longer term plans back in order and look Beyond COVID-19. Having supported and advised local businesses for over 80 years and with our added ability to offer not only accountancy but wider business advisory help, we know we are well placed to help businesses in Yorkshire work their way out of this crisis and come out ‘on the other side’.”
