Big player in industry signed up by Bloom

BLOOM, the Leeds-based digital agency, has hired a big-hitter from the world of direct marketing.

Gurdev Singh, who has more than 25 years’ experience, has joined as a non-executive director.

He was previously the group business development director at Communisis, the marketing services firm.

Mr Singh brings experience in data, multi-channel communications and integrated marketing and a big contacts book with blue chip institutions and service providers, according to Alex Craven, the chief executive.

Mr Craven told the Yorkshire Post: “He’s a great guy and is extremely well known and respected within the industry. He has great client contacts and he is helping us with our business development and growth strategy and helping us meet loads of new clients.”

Mr Singh said Bloom has an exciting opportunity to help develop its customer base.

He added that its social media service, Whisper, will provide new opportunities for businesses and brands.

Bloom, one of Yorkshire’s fastest-growing digital agencies, surprised the market last month when it announced up to 17 job cuts in a workforce of 56.

The company blamed a constriction of some client budgets and a delay of projects into the new year.

Mr Craven said yesterday that the company has had a raft of new business wins this year and is on course for a turnover of £3.5m.

He added that “things are looking up” in marketing spend and clients have high ambitions for 2014.

“Most of our clients are looking to grow and structuring for that. Budgets are forthcoming,” he said.

Bloom has also seen internationally renowned mathematician Peter Grindrod CBE join as a non-executive director to develop the agency’s data analytics team.

Meanwhile, Dave Wood, former head of operations at Bloom, has recently been made managing director.

Clients include Arla, Conran, EDF Energy and Lakeland.
