Blades net new head of operations

Sheffield United has appointed Dave McCarthy as head of operations.

Mr McCarthy will join the senior management team led by chief executive Trevor Birch. He will have responsibility for operations including all areas of the Bramall Lane stadium, the Blades Superstore, Blades Academy in Shirecliffe and the Derek Dooley Development Centre in Crookes.

He will also assist in driving forward the club’s community division The United Initiative.

For the last two years, Mr McCarthy has worked on various projects and events at the football club, including a six-month spell with the United’s associate club Chengdu Blades, where he became the first foreign chief executive of a professional football club in China.

He was also employed last season as the joint managing director of the club’s associate club in Hungary, Ferencvaros.

He was previously manager of the world’s oldest football club Sheffield FC, taking them to their highest ever league position.

The appointment forms part of Mr Birch’s recent management restructure off-the-field at Bramall Lane.
