Blue Logic in the pink with acquisition of marketing agency

BLUE Logic Digital, a Leeds-based digital marketing agency, is the new owner of Coolpink, an agency which closed down just before Christmas.

Coolpink officially ceased trading on January 6. Its client list included Asda, Smeg, Wren Kitchens, PPG and Bensons for Beds but it is believed that the firm ran into trouble when its biggest customer, DFS, moved its marketing in-house.

Blue Logic Digital, itself subject to a recent rebranding, beat off competition from up to 20 other interested parties to acquire Coolpink a couple of weeks ago.

The firm would not disclose how much it had paid for the business.

Its parent company, Blue Logic, was founded as an IT support and network solutions firm.

In 2013, its turnover rose by £1m to £4.58m. Over the same calendar year, the firm expanded its workforce by nearly a third taking the total number of employees to 55 across sites in Leeds and Hull.

Mark Rushworth, head of search at Blue Logic Digital, told the Yorkshire Post that the firm had bought the assets, the goodwill and the Coolpink brand and taken on a couple of its staff.

“We wanted to make sure that their clients had continuity. It was a commercial opportunity for us although we don’t know what that is yet. The Coolpink brand is up for discussion.”

Coolpink, which was founded by Mark Bower more than a decade ago, employed around 12 members of staff. Blue Logic was established in 2007.

In 2013, Blue Logic boosted its client list with, among others, Morrisons, the West Yorkshire Probation Trust and Eddisons Commercial. It has ambitious plans for further expansion this year including a sizeable expansion of its head office.

Mr Rushworth said: “We are a big advocate of Yorkshire. There are a lot of opportunities here.

“From the top down, we believe that Yorkshire-based businesses can compete nationally.”

Blue Logic Digital employs eight people, including the two former Coolpink staff members.
