Brian still broking at the age of 80

WHEN BRIAN Denney established his insurance broking business, a young footballer called Pele was making waves at the 1958 World Cup, and the information super-highway was the stuff of science fiction.

Today Mr Denney, who has just celebrated his 80th birthday, is one of Britain’s oldest working insurance brokers. He hopes to keep clocking on until he reaches his century.

Mr Denney, who presided over a merger of his company, Denney O’Hara, with Henderson Insurance Brokers in 2010, is based at the Lawnswood Business Park in Leeds, which his firm moved to in 2002.

Mr Denney, who is now director of Henderson Employee Benefits, said: “I’m delighted to be still working and certainly have no plans to retire just yet.

“It’s very important that people continue to do what they love doing and try to keep busy for as long as they are mentally and physically able to do so.

“I would certainly love to reach my centenary and be the country’s only centenarian insurance broker.”
