Broder finds the space for growth

A YORKSHIRE-based metals firm is poised for growth after moving to a bigger base.

Broder Metals Group has found a new home in Ecclesfield, to the north of Sheffield, after outgrowing its base in the city centre.

The company, which has £7m turnover and 22 staff, is expecting to grow sales by 40 per cent a year, which is in line with the performance over the last six years.

It has achieved growth at a time when many of its competitors have contracted or disappear- ed.

Broder Metal Group’s managing director Mark Burton said that the move provides a big increase in the group’s capacity.

The extra space has also allowed Broder to invest in new machinery, including new sawing capacity, so the company can cut metals up to 300mm in diameter.

The company, which was formed in 2006, has also taken delivery of a Combilift side loader, which will speed up the process of loading and unloading in the warehouse.

Mr Burton added: “Overall, the new place is two and a half times the size of the old units in central Sheffield, with nearly 20,000 square feet of space.

“When we add in our investment in new racking, it means we can hold far more stock than we used to, which in turn means increased options for our customers.”

The director of Broder Metals Group, Mike Andrews, said: “Our growth, particularly in 2011-12, has outstripped our capacity.

“The new facilities will allow us to continue to meet customer demand.

“The whole building provides us with additional room to grow over the next five to 10 years.

“It’s really exciting when we look back to where we started, and compare it to what we can now offer to customers.”

Mr Burton added: “We really are all in this together – that is our philosophy and our team deserve the new surroundings.

“We now also have dedicated training and meeting rooms, as well as a new board room, and still plenty of additional space for future expansion.”
